ADAPT is a Clinical Interest Group

recognised by

the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

When you join ADAPT you will be a member of a group of physiotherapists who are working in two-thirds world countries and elsewhere. Our members also include those who would like to work abroad and those who have just returned.

On joining you will be given information about other members who have agreed to share their contact details, countries where they have served and what their special interest and expertise is.

We aim to support members by facilitating the exchange of information and by this means to help develop effective physiotherapy services world-wide. We try to do this in a way that promotes an understanding of healthcare in all cultures and belief systems and which is socially and economically appropriate.

In practice this means being in email contact whenever possible, wherever you are in the world so that we can put you in touch with others who can advise you on clinical, cultural, educational, or any other matters that may be concerning you. It means offering advice and information about countries you might be interested to work in and how best you might prepare yourself for that. It also means helping you to adjust to the change of coming home again and picking up the threads.

You will receive a bi-annual newsletter with articles on clinical, cultural and many other issues.

You will be invited to attend an annual study day on topics such as cultural awareness, making assistive devices from cardboard, lifting and handling with lo-tech equipment and many others.

These study days are also wonderful opportunities to share accounts of your experiences with others who may have similar, or very different stories to tell, or who could inspire you and offer wise advice about future plans.
